Subject:We sold 23 oz. of silver at a gun show! Woo Hoo!
By: Jason Hommel, Silver Stock Report Overview: We sold 23 oz. of silver at a gun show this weekend! Woo Hoo! I had three people transport and sell silver on our behalf at the Vallejo, CA gun show this weekend. There was only one other numismatic dealer, and we had the lowest prices on bullion, and we were the only ones who had bullion in bulk. We took and offered 6500 ounces of silver and 70 ounces of gold. While the booth was cheap, there was also the cost of hotels, and wages, so we spent nearly $1000 to offer silver at the show. And no you have just one reply to your post.
I'm a PM dealer on the Gulf Coast and have noticed a similar, dare I say, disdain for silver. I have been talking to clients about silver since $8 in October also and only a few takers. Meanwhile, we've piled up thousands of ounces of silver from distressed sellers needing money to pay a bill or cover expenses and others thinking about getting back in the stock market. Anyway, I thought it a bit ironic that no one had commented on your article so I had to register and put in my two cents. Wake up folks! Silver is still on sale and still the only reasonable barter tool once everyone gets tired of shooting each other. What a damn shame. |

Funny, and sad at the same time! Late last year and early this year, I leaned on my mother to cash out her dog annuities (senior citizens and their damned annuities!), and buy gold and silver. The silver, in particular, for some reason she resisted buying, even though it was just a fraction of the value of the gold she purchased. And yet she could not articulate why she resisted silver and not gold. I thought it was odd, but it does seem in line with your and Jason's observations and experiences. I totally gave up on trying to get her to stock up on any extra food, though --- too "doon and gloomy" for her, I guess. |

you don't try to sell PMs at a gun show. these are two separate audiences. die hard gun fans don't give a rat's ass about gold or silver. they live by the stupid motto...'you can't eat gold'. most people who like guns are not sophisticated investors because most people are not in general.
you can't eat gold. you can't eat bullets either. saying that gold has no real worth is like saying someday men will no longer desire sex with beautiful women. although this is possible, it is not likely. i think jason is hurting if he has to resort to gun shows. |

There are some fairly sophisticated investors ...who also like guns, and have amazing collections of both. While I can't eat a bullet... I can make a deer eat it... or make a case that if food is not present ASAP... someone else might have to eat it. A sale is a sale...don't care where the silver is on sale. If it it is a deal, I will buy it. For example, while at my last gun show, I found some unique jewlery my wife would like ... wasn't expecting to find it there... just fell across it. She loved it. I'm sure If I had found a deal on silver... I would have bought some as well. Could probably blow out quite a bit at spot plus 1.00 + for generics all day...for survival purposes of course...especially with literature on how spot price is not realistic for physical..etc Most gun shows have terrible prices on guns - jacked up because internet sales are high. It is a place to see them all at once... might pick up a deal here and there... if you know what you are looking for, and how to bargain. Most booths have the same stuff...every time. You know where to look and where to go. People get a reputation for having the best prices on ammo, etc..and usually sell out fast. Everyone else plugs along for the weekend trying to make the additional dollars on their higher priced stuff.... I see it every time. Why try and restrict markets that are worth exploiting from a sales perspective. |

I think it's interesting that there is no mention in Hommel's article as to at what price he was trying to sell. If he was asking the same premium percentage wise at 15 that he was getting at 10 , then there is little wonder he brought it all home.

"Silver was just not even on the radar screen of people at the show. They had no thought or comprehension of silver or gold.
When asked if they wanted silver, people retorted, "What do I need silver for, I have a gun, and ammo! I can get whatever I need." Scary, but true!" What idiocy! Instead of going to the store a couple times now and quickly building up a couple months worth of supplies, these geniuses would rather wait until things fall apart and start breaking into peoples homes and eventually get splattered all over some shotgun owner's living room. If things get bad it sounds like there will be a severe culling of the heard, which will be a tragic but not entirely negative event. |

If I see any of that lot I will just start shooting and consider it self defence.
