Subject:Ahead Of His Time and When Paper Can’t Control Prices
By: Ted Butler and Israel Friedman Overview: The purpose of this article is not just to compliment my friend, even though compliments are certainly well deserved. Quite frankly, I have come to expect that what Izzy says you can generally take to the bank. My main motive is to impress upon you what he feels strongly about now. Regular readers will not be surprised. As a coincidence, Izzy had prepared a short article before the Wall Street Journal Op-Ed piece had come to my attention, so I’ll let him speak for himself. Those were good proposals as far as they went. I kind of liked this one that's along the same lines even better:
"Neither Mr. Obama nor none of the candidates for Mayor of Detroit (the last mayor is doing time in a federal penitentiary) has asked for our advice. We will give it anyway. Want to save Detroit? (or any other large city that's currently a basket case) Here’s how: Abolish all welfare of all sorts…no unemployment insurance…no child tax credits…no welfare…no foods tamps…no nothing, except privately-sponsored charities. Close the public schools. Kick out all the bureaucrats and all federal and state employees. Abolish all rules concerning employment - no minimum wages, no overtime, discriminate all you want. Require all residents to say please and thank you…dress properly…and sneer at people who don’t seem to be gainfully employed or polite. Declare the city an Open City and Free Trade Zone. In exchange for cutting all federal aid programs, eliminate federal and state taxes for people living in the city. Allow unlimited immigration into the city…giving all immigrants a U.S. passport after 5 years of residency. Levy a flat 10% tax to pay for basic services. Eliminate elections…have the city controlled by a town council composed of 10 citizens chosen at random. Within five years, Detroit would be the most dynamic city in the nation." From Bill Bonner and the Whiskey and Gunpowder blog: http://www.whiskeyandgunpowder.com/b...or-the-ghetto/ I'm sure we could squeeze something in about buying a house, starting a business or depositing $XXX,XXX in a bank account, along with their residency requirement somehow. I believe Canada did exactly this when they offered green cards to refugees looking to immigrate from Hong Kong when the Chinese took over control of that island nation from Britain several years ago now. In return these refugees who were VERY WEALTHY had to come here and buy a home, start a business and deposit quite a lot of money in their new bank accounts, probably the funds they were escaping Hong Kong with. There was a resulting land and commercial real estate boom and I remember the locals bitching about increasing property values and all that that entails. Oh those were the days!! Anyway, my dad laughed when I read this to him saying something to the effect that "that will never happen, thank God." To which I responded, you mean that this would make things WORSE THAN THEY ARE NOW?? Especially in Detroit?? He changed the subject.... If you're going to dream, DREAM BIG or GO HOME!!!! ![]() |

Yaaaaaaa, Detroit has rolled the clock back 100 years. This is even better than picking up our plant and moving it to another state because they will provide fee land and no property taxes for 25 years. We won't have to listen to the employees bitching about working for slave wages, because their incentive is permanent residency in The Land Of Oz. So what if your employer closes the factory and moves to Detroit. You can move there also and apply for a job. Of course you'll have to be able to purchase a home and compete with foreign nationals for $2.00 an hour jobs, if your lucky. For permanent US residency, you must do the following: 1. Have a huge amount of money to buy your way in. 2. Be able to afford outrageous prices for a condemned house. 3. Have enough money in your bank account to survive on for five years. 4. Be willing to work for basically nothing and 100 hours a week and never, ever, bitch about your job or the safety conditions. 5. You must be able to afford your own health care, because it will not be provided. Your reward for five years of voluntary slavery, is your American Citizenship! Once you have that, you are free to move anywhere and find a regular job. That is if there are any left and all of America has not already turned into one Giant Free Trade Zone, where everyone is now a slave trying to stay alive. Chux, does that about cover your plan?? |

I'll respond by the numbers... 1. Have a huge amount of money to buy your way in. Yes, I don't know about HUGE but how about enough to buy a livable home and living expenses for the duration OR the ability to transfer or start a business in your new place of residency?? What do you suggest? Just opening up the gates?? 2. Be able to afford outrageous prices for a condemned house. If they have the money to speculate in the local real estate market AFTER meeting the above requirements, GOOD FOR THEM!!! That's how the shit-hole that is Detroit is going to change. Who would want to live in a condemned house?? Not me....and I'm sure the new guys living here with money wouldn't either. 3. Have enough money in your bank account to survive on for five years. What? Do you think I want to "import" poor people?? That the taxpayers would have to....support?? We have enough of those and then some. I have NEVER been hired for any job by a poor person. WE WANT PEOPLE WITH RESOURCES THAT WANT TO COME HERE as this would be their LAND of OPPORTUNITY. 4. Be willing to work for basically nothing and 100 hours a week and never, ever, bitch about your job or the safety conditions. Starting out in this new society I WOULD WANT AND EXPECT NOTHING LESS!!!! OSHA and WISHA and all of those other government alphabet agencies are HAZARDS to taxpayers, hindrances to employers and the FREE MARKET PLACE. However, I'm sure this would be one of the things that a free market would change. Nobody should die on the job due to something that could have been prevented reasonably and safely. 5. You must be able to afford your own health care, because it will not be provided. THANK GOD!! Because that's another thing the government would fuk up. I spent 4 years in the USAF and I saw quite enough of what the government has in store for "medical care for all" which really means less than quality care for everyone. I have no faith in the government or that they're capable of doing anything at all better than the free market. How's my DREAM-WORLD look to you now?? It looks like PARADISE to a big L - Libertarian, FREE MARKET type like myself. You think the new residents would have any complaints either, knowing where they came from? And I can understand why someone used to sucking off the government tit & working at General Motors would think otherwise (though no reference to you personally meant here). That's why we really, really need these big metropolis's with problems to hurry up and go bankrupt so the new can take the place of the old.....and we just ain't talking buildings here either!! Let's just try this once and in one place (and I nominate DETROIT) and see what happens. My prediction?? It would be so successful that the present governmental setup in the U.S. couldn't even chance this happening. At least until the coming crash clears them out of the way....well we can only HOPE, huh?? |

Government is not the problem, It's the people who write the governments checks that are the problem. Why would corporations care if their slave workers die on the job. They'd just replace them with another desperate peasant. Things will never get better, because it's to their benefit to have a desperate populace. Your plan ^ caters to these same corporations, by finishing their long fought war on regulation, and civility. Libertarianism is flawed. An absolute free market being the cure-all, is a myth spread by the (filthy)rich, who got tired of a strong government regulating them. After all, they view themselves as royalty, so why should they have to play by the rules? Much easier to buy the people who make the rules. Much easier to buy the information outlets, that feed you your silly ideas.
Two banks controlling 72% of the supposed free silver market, is a perfect example of the lack of needed regulation. How would abolishing welfare, unemployment, fair wages, and discrimination laws, help the problem of the richest among us having no one to answer to? It's the equivalent of a school yard bully having the run of the school, because the principal and teachers are all afraid of getting their asses beat. Your lack of critical thinking skills doesn't help. So respectfully, do us all a favor and shut up. |

In the first place, immigration is the problem in this country not the solution.
Business has been destroying our economy from both ends of the labor pool. We spend a fortune getting an education so we can earn a good living. Companies like Microsoft have been abusing the immigration system for decades, by "lining the pockets" of our politicians. They give special immigration status to experienced computer programmers who will gladly work for less. Microsoft can't find experienced programmers. What Microsoft couldn't find were programmers willing to work for the same wages. The same thing has been done with engineers, doctors and the list goes on and on. Meanwhile we have all these engineers with degrees working in other fields, because an immigrant has already been hired to work for less. We have to live with doctors we can't understand, with names we can't pronounce and we have no choice, because our insurance companies contract them for less money than American doctors are willing to work for. Then to provide a "tiny" bit of competition in our labor pool to drive down wages, we turn our backs and allow tens of millions of illegals to sneak into this country from anywhere, as long as they can get past the border. Buy a round trip ticket from virtually anywhere in the world and pack just enough for a vacation and never use the return ticket, just make yourself at home. Need a new roof, hire an American company with all American citizens. The owner is white, the sales person is white and the production manager is white. However, there are no white or black Americans that will stoop so low as to actually do the work of a roofer. Ask the sales person, do you use American citizens, absolutely, we do not hire any Mexicans. Don't screw around with these contractors, hire a legitimate company like Home Depot and they guarantee you that they do not hire illegals and all of the their employees are American citizens. You have to pay more, but at least you know Home Depot won't be hiring illegals for the job. The production manager shows up with two trucks full of men from somewhere south of the border. He introduces himself to you, makes sure they are installing the correct product. He then introduces you to Paco and tells you to only talk to Paco if you have any questions, because he is the only person on the crew who speaks English. Wait a minute, the salesman guaranteed me that Home Depot only hired American Citizens. That's right, I am an American citizen. Well these guys sure as hell are not. I have no idea as to their legal status or from what country the come from. They are not Home Depot employees, they work for the subcontractor. If your the production manager, why do I need to talk to Paco. I'm not going to be here, but I'll be back at the end of the job to make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction and pick up your check. An hour later I'm on the phone with the production manager telling him, I paid extra money to have six nails per shingle instead of four and these clowns are only using three to four nails per shingle. Six months later, Home Depot finally came back and replaced the roof and they finally got their check. I guess I should have more compassion for these, no longer illegals, but poor souls that are about to be granted citizenship for braving that dangerous trek across our borders and voting for comrade Obama. |

like we're blessed with now....
"Government is not the problem" Wow...IT'S NOT?? I DIS-agree. Government IS ALWAYS THE PROBLEM!!! The great ENABLERS leading the way with lies and propaganda telling the masses, sure....you can have something for nothing. Etc, etc, etc. We could have never gotten in all this trouble without the government interference we see ALL THE TIME THESE DAYS, not only in our lives but especially in our markets. If they're going to take the credit for the good things (though I can't think of ANY good things they do right off hand maybe except spend money?) THEY CAN HAVE ALL OF THE BLAME FOR THE BAD AS WELL....seems only fair. But anyway....what the phuk does two banks controlling the paper silver futures market have anything to do with saving Detroit??? WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A FREE MARKET APPROACH IN RAISING THE LIVING STANDARDS FOR ALL THE FOLKS WHO'D LIVE IN DETROIT IN RETURN FOR A GREEN CARD AND A SHOT AT THE AMERICAN DREAM, WITHOUT THE PART OF BEING SHAKEN DOWN BY THE LIKES OF YOU AND THE KIND OF GOVERNMENT YOU OBVIOUSLY SUPPORT. The government (like we got now) in such a time and place as I would see it in future Detroit, aren't needed nor are they wanted, as tough as that may be for you to believe. Just look at what government policies have done to Detroit (Hell, the whole country, really). Federal, state, local, they ALL add up and they add up to THE LOSING PROPOSITION of a shit-hole like you see there right now. Only the most extreme government apologist's could accept what is happening in Detroit right now and to offer more of the same, besides being intolerable, IS DOWNRIGHT CRIMINAL. And they don't need any more criminals in Detroit. |

A town council composed of 10 citizens chosen at random = Government. Albeit, a weak one. How long do you think it would take to bye these 10 citizens? What percentage of these 10 citizens would even know what to do? Sounds like planned chaos. Kind of like the last 39 years of bankrupting government policies. The people have forgotten the purpose of government. Maybe when we're all starving to death, they'll remember.
A better plan would be to start teaching civics again, and give the people an understanding of the purpose of government. Re-implement laws that give the people power over their government, and then re-implement laws that give the government power over corporate entities. It will happen, as it has many times before. And when it does things will get better. When things get better, the people will become comfortable and complacent, and eventually forget why they ever cared. When people forget, greed will cause some among us to begin to systematically retract the laws that were re-implemented to put a check on power. And we then again, will find ourselves in the same boat we are in today. The cycles of a capitalist society. Kind of like playing a game of Monopoly over and over. It's fun in the beginning, but we all know how the game ends. |
