So what I find is $8.00 an hour times 10 hours a day minus taxes is about $70. Divided by 8 is about $8.75 a day. Which just barely supports a member of the immigrant's family. So one day laborer can feed 7 others living here without jobs. As long as they have a plywood shack to sleep in.

This wikipedia entry is a good place to start - it has several links.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsist...heory_of_wages

I misquoted it a little bit - the main idea is that wages reach an equilibrium where population does not increase.

In a real society, of course, there would be years of famine when few people ate well, and in good times some relatively unskilled laborers would earn enough to raise large families and some would always be scrounging for food.

As I have studied it, daily wages for an unskilled worker in the US today seem to be about 6-8 times what a person can live on with food alone for a day. So if you live in a tent or cardboard box, 1 laborer can support 7 nonlaborers. Mind you, this is bad food and nothing else, not even toilet paper.

    Direct references are frustratingly elusive.

at 99% unemployment all we'd hear over the news is, "Unemployment slowing down, green chutes and recovery next quarter"

All the employed(or future unemployed) are not created equal which is only one reason why this is an incredibly complex problem...

    Default Dear Jake

Did you run your non linearity through the multiplex demodulator and quantize it with the flux capacitor implementing the resultant partial differential equation from the vector residue method or did you use a thesaurus ?
