Default $80K in Silver Stolen From Pickup

True or False? You decide. Here you go.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of nearly $80,000 in silver from a pickup parked at a gas station on U.S. 1.

The incident was reported Thursday at a gas station on Columbia Highway in Aiken, according to a sheriff’s report.

The 33-year-old victim told officers he lives in West Columbia but works at the Savannah River Site, and routinely parks his vehicle at the gas station while he’s at work.

The victim said that when he returned Thursday evening, he saw his vehicle’s door ajar, police said.

Missing from the vehicle were a .40-caliber pistol and about $2,000 in Christmas gifts and clothing. There was also about 300 pounds of silver, valued at about $15.88 per ounce, which equals more than $76,000.

The victim added that because he is not allowed to smoke marijuana, he smokes organic herbs, of which about $80 of product was missing from the truck, police said.

He told officers he was sure he secured the truck before leaving, but officers found no signs of forced entry on the vehicle.

I wonder if that was his version of lost at sea while fishing or was he really that dumb to leave 300 pounds of Silver just setting in a parked vehicle?
