I am newly registered here, but I have been lurking for a very long while. I honestly think things have been working great outside the one recent disturbance (Roger). I would say don't fix it if it isn't broken. I like the fact that you guys don't moderate with an Iron Fist, but you DO come around when it really matters. Keep doing what your doing, and thanks!

I think the ! button works well enough for reporting individual posts and you can always PM admin or mod or even start a thread to raise concerns or make suggestions.

I don't care about swearing, racism, name calling or any of the other things people engage in here, until it gets really personal and nasty, which seldom happens.

As for trolls and spam, it's like one of the supreme court justices said several years ago about pornography (wish I remembered who said this). I paraphrase:

I may not be able to define it, but I know it when I see it.

When I published a working draft of my "Chicken Flock Theory", I was hoping for mature members of this forum to help me develop the ideas in it. Yet, The 3 stooges, specifically Jake, CCJoe and Maplesilverbug, would not allow me to say anything about it. Each post I made, every prediction was hijacked with insults and irrelevancies. I literally begged and begged for these people to allow me to developed the theory in public domain without disruption and let it stand or fall on its own merits. Yet these Juveniles think they know best and hijacked every attempt at a discussion. They seem to think that they are the final arbiters of ideas published in this forum - the final authorities of what works and not; the demigod editors of this forum.

While you are addressing Roger, why don't you address the disruptive juvenile egos of Jake, CCJoe and Maplesilverbug. If you banned Roger for being a disruptive user, these people are more disruptive. Please keep an eye on them and you will see what I mean. Alternatively, you can trace back the post I've made on CFT and you will see that each and every one have been hijacked with insults.

Great job of taking something out of context - specifically:
I don't care about … racism,… or any of the other things people engage in here, until it gets really personal and nasty, which seldom happens.
which is a far cry from saying I endorse racism.

I disagree. For every post by one your so-called "big 3", there are 3 posts that go the opposite direction. If it wasn't for your "big 3", we'd hear nothing but mindless perma-bull drivel and "the world is ending TOMORROW" BS. Balance is good...suppressing what is against the majority is, well, wrong.

    Jojo...
I've been around here for a few years, and I believe it is safe to say that the moderation on this board is close to non-existent. That's not to say that Chris/Pete et al don't drop in, or work on the site, but they are not overly active in policing the PMS that explodes from the loins of SS each and every day. There are multiple personality types here, including racists who believe they speak for a majority. With no disrespect intended to you, suck it up, and get used to it. While I was at one time frustrated with the lack of content moderation on this board, I have grown to appreciate it, as it lets the kooks really show themselves for the bones they are. You will quickly be able to determine (ON YOUR OWN) who you align with, and who you don't, and those that are in the middle. In my opinion, that is much better than being force fed something that panders to ONLY one way of thinking. If anybody should be banned, it should be the racist db's that continually flaunt their hatred for particular religious and cultural sects of society. There is no place for that, IMO, and based on the numerous messages I've received, many people are working to get them dealt with accordingly.

Bottom line...if you believe something, screw what anyone else says. If someone trolls a thread, call him/her out in a civilized way. I don't agree with your line of thinking, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate having you on the site.

    Word.

I NEVER wrote that you "endorse racism".
Please stop lying and inventing quotes. Thanks.

What I did take offense to was you writing (paraphrasing) that you had no problem with racism until it was personal. Since no one would ever call you "The N-Word" (assuming, presumptuously, that you are Caucasian), in other words, making racism personal, you have no problem with African Americans being called "The N-Word". Yes? No?

    My moral filosofy:
I have no problem with rape, pillage, and murder....unless it happens to me.
Actually, I don't really give a rat's ass what happens on this planet, just as long as it doesn't happen to me, y'know gets personal. Then it's wrong.

Hey, gotta take care of #1, right!

I know of two very good forums. One has no moderation. None. Zip. Zero. The other is so heavily moderated that almost everybody gets banned eventually, some several times. Members consider it a badge of honor that they have been banned at least once.

The main difference between these two forums and others is the membership. One board is by invitation only, so it's obvious how they maintain quality. The other is strictly random; I have no idea how they manage to attract better than average posters. They are rowdy without being rude, and prolific without being off topic. There are lots of other forums that demonstrate the same thing: moderation or the absence of it matters very little. Members make the difference.

Bottom line: Be the change you want.
    My opinions might change.
    But I'm still right.
