Default 10 oz. Commodity Exchange Bars

I just bought 3 of them on ebay. I've heard of 1000 oz. CMX bars, but not 10 oz. These say they were "minted from commodity exchange good delivery 1000 oz. bar"

Anyone ever seen or heard about these before? And, yeah, they look, have the normal dimensions, and have the weight/volume they should.

A dealer told me that it means nothing..generic bars. Most newly produced smaller bars and rounds are minted from 1000 oz. bars, and I would suspect that most of these are LGD or COMEX bars which without assay can be purchased with confidence.

Sounds like a copy-cat of a generic gimmic used back in the early 1980's you've seen:

    Obverse: U.S. Assay Office
    San Francisco (date....1982?) and

    Reverse: Something like "Strategic Stockpile..."

Apmex and Bulliondirect frequently have CMX bars for sale. All it means is that it is a bar from an established manufacturer which is accepted by COMEX.

Genius goldminer I compared them to a US Assay bar I have and the designs are very similar, although the reverses of these bars are blank and proof-like. However, these don't look newly made. Heck, they may have been minted in the 80's.

Yeah I know, I had just never seen a bar with "commodity exchange" on it before, which made me wonder if it was either generic or contract-minted for the COMEX, like a "comex-brand" bar. I think goldminer's got it right....just a generic. Thanks for the info guys!

Maybe the bars will attain a "name-brand" popularity ranking, like the U.S. Assay Office bars have done.

They're great ones to hold IMO.
