I would rather own CEF (central fund of Canada) been around since the 60's and Bullion is segregated. 20 ounces of Silver per ounce of Gold

To bad neither SLV or CEF is optionable.

The only optionable silver ETF I have found is DBS, but the volume is light.

It is priced out currently on a divsor of about 1.77 - I think they are currently holding the 1/09 contract as the holder. I know it rolls to the highest yield vs. their treasury holding.

You'd do better by reading what some of the experts have to say about it. Ted Butler, Jason Hommell, Doug Casey all have suspicions about SLV not having the metal at any certain time to cover the paper they have outstanding. Of course that's an over-simplification but I'd rather read about what they think as opposed to what I think. Those kind of things are better left to the experts. And then, after reading what they think, I'll make/form my opinion.
So, me thinks I don't like SLV either. I'd rather have something that I can touch...as there's no doubts about that!!

SLV vs. DBS

1. SLV is Taxed as a Collectible, Minimum Rate of 28%

2. As per the Prospectus, JP Morgan Chase Bank N.A., acting through its London Branch (the “Custodian”), is responsible for safekeeping the silver owned by
The Trust. (SLV)

3. How much do you Trust JP Morgan? JP Morgan is a Major Player within the FED, A Private Organization.

4. YTD performance: 18.08%, 30 Day: (-) 1.01, 90 Days: +6.0%, One Year: +39.78%

1. DBS is Taxed as a Commodity’s Future.

2. U.S Treasuries are used to Buy The Futures Contracts on DBS

3. How confident are you about U.S Treasuries?

4. YTD Performance: 15.63%, 30 days: (-) 1.00%, 90 Days: +1.32%, One Year: +35.86%

You decide...

SLV is ok if you run into the day trading rule on your brokerage. At the monent tho- I think Silver Wheaton would be better choice.

The biggest problem most people fail to realize.

I read a very good article today by Ted Butler on the SLV ETF. I didn't know they were manipulating the ETF as well as silver on the COMEX. Is anything sacred anymore?

The following is an excerpt from the article:

Almost eight months ago, I wrote an article titled “A Hidden Silver Default?” -
It was a detailed article on a complex subject - the unreported short selling of shares in the big silver exchange traded fund (ETF) run by Barclays and trading under the symbol SLV (http://www.goldnewswire.net/slv). I won’t repeat all the points made in that article, so I would urge you to read or reread the original, as the issue has surfaced again. Allow me to first summarize my original findings. Read the rest.... (http://www.goldnewswire.net/slv)

You can do covered call options on GLD or SLV though you have to buy 100 shares of either to do so. I was just reading about that very subject and the author stated that this was the ONLY way to collect "interest" on GLD or SLV. I think the call were in the next month as April's expired worthless today, the 17th. If I can find that article I'll post it here...

I have quite a few shares of SLV and am hating it. If you can own the physical metal don't buy ETFs.

When it first came out I bought in and at first pleased. I began to notice that there would be times SLV would not move with Comex and that got me to re-read the prospectus.
I realized that SLV was not holding all physical bullion, and had the ability to lease In or Out. This got me to thinking that SLV could be a player or manipulated to depress Ag spot pricing.

So I bailed out.

I've found CEF (Central Fund of Canada), got the prospectus, and DMODD.
I liked the fund is physical holdings in Au and Ag, No leasing allowed, No significant paper Au/Ag, Audited semi-annually, Insured against Mis-Management, and theft.
Yes, There is a premium when compared to other funds BUT you pay a premium to hold physical Au/Ag yourself.
