Subject:The production of silver in the world 2009
By: Dr Thomas Chaize

Overview: Industrial use of silver is often associated with the declining use of film, then it represents only 1 / 10 of its use. Silver is used for its conductivity (electronic) and properties bactericidal (nanotechnology of Health). Since the advent of digital photography, industrial demand has largely offset the decline in demand for photographic film.

Author is requested to do more research on silver Industrial usage. In my opinion based on physical sales data to various industries, the alternative use of silver is not even one fourth of what used to be in traditional segments such as photography, gift articles and silver wares. The traditional users dont use much of silver. In India alone, silver consumption has reduced from 5000 tons per annum to 1200 now in just last six years.

Silver is now being used in new battery technology, multiple uses in electronics, medical applications, superconductivity, and communications. These will all dwarf the demand for silver in photography. In any event, new institutional investment demand for silver alone would more than make up for any decline in photographic usage.

I expect India will provide significant supply of silver at these prices and we have seen some posts indicating local supply spikes. That is to be expected as many people in India have a low standard of living and will be sellers at these prices, but the sellers will regret their decision and anyway, Indian sales will not make any impact in the long term on the price of silver.
