I went into my local coin shop today looking to see what they had. I was in this same shop less than two weeks ago, buying a kilo J&M bar and at the time "they had lots of silver." Today I asked what kind of 10 ounce bars they had in stock and she looked at me and shook her head and said "we're out." O.K. any rolls, I asked. Nope...here I'll show you what we have. She reaches into the big safe and pulls out another Tuperware rectangular container full of various painted Eagles, odd ball small ingots, a few rounds and the like, basically it's the "junk box" but there was probably 50 to 60 ounces in there of all shapes and small sizes, nothing over 3 ounces tops. I start digging through it and see a few Sunshine rounds so I grab a couple of those. Then I see a Nat'l Bank of Commerce of Seattle 100 gram silver bar, made by J&M way back sometime before 1969 when that bank was bought out. I grab that.
Then I see these strange looking Bunker Hill (Idaho) silver rounds and notice that they seem to be different scenes on each of the 5 of them I managed to grab. Anyway, I have #2, #3, #4 & #5. They're in good shape no dings or dents. BH-2 features a scene showing the Kellogg Tunnel, BH-3 shows the lead smelter at Bradley, ID. BH-4 shows the Electrolytic Zinc Plant located at Silver King, ID and BH-5 shows the Electrolytic Silver Refinery at Kellogg, ID. These are nice looking rounds and if I could get my image file size down a wee bit I'd try and snap a few pics and post em here. My Canon SD-750 is a FANTASTIC camera. It takes really nice pics so if I can do that, I'll try and post a pic or two.
Anyone know anything about this set?? I have heard there's just the 5 of them. The lady at the coin shop said she has BH-1 in BU condition but was already in the safe as it was right before closing. So I'll grab that one Monday when I'm in near there. Then I'll have all 5 of them. I'm not really a collector per se but I'll probably keep these aside and who knows? These may wind up on Ebay if that'd be worth doing or they may just hang out here for a few years too.
Anyway, I was shocked that they were, for all intents and purposes, OUT OF SILVER BULLION in this store!! And this is a fair sized shop that handles more than just coins too. Last visit, I'd venture to say they had thousands of ounces of silver. Today, less than I own. HA! I overheard her talking to another lady telling her that the other 5 or 6 people in there were silver buyers and in fact the guy next to me was talking to the other clerk and he said..."soon as he (meaning me) gets what he wants out of that box, I'd like to have a look (in there). Overall, he was bumbed too, I'd say, about the declining (before his very eyes) inventory, though I walked out with only 15 ounces in various rounds and that 100 gram ingot. First thing this morning, I'm RUNNING up to the real local coin shop 15 minutes up the road and buying more silver as I know he still has 'lots." Barring that, if I can't find it locally here in a modern metro area that has 3.3 million people and numerous coin shops, I'll place an order with Sunshine Silver as they probably have just as good of a price as the local guy tho with shipping, I doubt that. But at least they can fill just about any order..."we can get you what you want", she said. Anyway, I'll let you know what I find up there later on today.

Well, I didn't get the chance to run to the local coin shop last Saturday due to having to attend a memorial for my childhood friends' mom who passed at the beginning of March and couldn't get in there till today, just an hour ago now. Basically, they too are OUT OF SILVER. I was, needless to say, bumbed out. BUT...he mentioned to me that he has a couple of 100 ounce Englehard bars left and then that's it. Well, they don't take credit or debit cards, cash is king here, but I had to go to work this afternoon and didn't have enough cash on me or enough time to get to the credit union and back and still get home and get ready for work. I offered to pay the $800 I had and then come back in the morning with the balance but he told me no...BUT he quickly added that he'd be glad to hold it for me till tomorrow morning and he didn't need my money till in the morning. WOW...cool!! It cost me $1780.00 out the door and I was lucky to get it. I brought in a few graded silver Eagles to this shop a week or so ago and traded those few in for a 10 ounce ingot he had and the deal was my Eagles and $91 for the 10 ouncer, a very fair deal. I gave him a $100 bill and he gave me back $91 in change (which would have been a REALLY GOOD deal price per ounce wise) instead of the correct amount of $9. He placed it in my hand, I kind of cleared my throat realizing the mistake and said, "that isn't the right amount of change." So he looked back at the cash register, and I saw his eyes get big as he realized his mistake. I smiled, handed him back his cash and took the $9. He thanked me a couple of times and the other customer also made a nice comment about honesty etc. Anyway, the point here isn't to blow my own horn but in this case one good turn does GET it back in return. And while neither of us mentioned that past incident I know that thought crossed BOTH our minds (it did mine at least) when he told me "I know who you are, you'll be back. See you in the morning."
I'll be there, bright and early too...
