I am very grateful for the help I've got so far....I'm a new buyer so....

two questions. I bought american silver eagles today from a dealer. The were dirty. Just cleaned them up and they look great. None of them have mint marks. I've seen a few posts on the web of coins that don't have mint marks. Is this common? I hope it doesn't mean anything bad...they ding, held their color when cleaned, good dates, and weigh well. Where can I get more info on the mints. Every place I go says they were made at three different mints.

Also, has anyone bought gold plated silver american eagles? Anything I need to watch out for? This dealer has about 20 and he wants 19.00 a piece. Good deal for the plated? Thanks!

The only silver eagles I'm aware of that have mint marks are the "Proof" coins struck at the West Point, NY mint.

The gold plated silver eagles are gimmics created for eye appear & gift giving by folks who don't know squat about bullion & bullion coins.

The gold plated ones usually sell at a a bit less than non-plated BU eagles, when sold by bullion and coin dealers who know their stuff selling to buyers who know their stuff, and at higher premiums by some dealers selling to the unsuspecting.
