I can't find them anywhere, are they rare and worth it?
Is this from a private mint?

Thanks

That's a round from the Alaska Mint, It really has to be called a silver round and not a mint coin because it is not government backed, however rare silver rounds from small independant mints are bringing significant premiums because of small mintage and most have been melted down over the years. Variety is the spice of life! as they say , so people like to collect silver from various mints.

Cup-of-Ruin, are you sure about that? I don't think the current Alaska Mint was operating in 1974, although I might be wrong. This is interesting --- I have never seen this particular piece before.

From what I can gather the Alaskan Mint was started by Mike Robuck and they started mintin on December 12th,1990

Yes I think you are right, it couldn't be from the Alaska mint, it's a real oddity. Could from the 'Letcher Mint' that started in 1973 they produced silver trade units, I think.

The price is way too high for me!
Finding a collector that would pay that for just an ounce is chancy.

The "deal" will probably be great for the seller.

IMO this is a generic 1 oz. silver round currently worth spot + about a $1.00...except to a comparatively VERY small market of folks who seriously collect (compulsive type individuals) rounds, have a good size check book, and believe they "have" to have this one.

Never seen or heard of one of these, looks well over priced. Seller's feedback rating is alittle shaky also.
