There is no way of knowing how many are out there because millions and millions of them were melted specifically in the 1960's, and 1980's.

Millions and millions of them have also been melted others years and continues today. A very large dealer told me the other day that refineries are melting American Silver Eagle coins to produce Good Delivery Bars they are selling to large dealers overseas at a significant profit.

Haha, silver is leaving the country. Wealth is leaving the country. Americans think so lowly of their silver that they so easily part with them for a piece of paper that says $20 on it. What is wrong with this country?

A dealer has recommended bags of silver morgans and peace dollars. Are they telling me the truth and what can you tell me about price I should pay?

You ask 'what is wrong with this country' .. fact is we have been sold out over the last many decades...by our 'government'. The fish is rotten top down. The citizenry is dumbed down, the 'media' in control of our minds, where thinking is in fact going on at all, we have lost the greater part of several generations of purposefully dumbed down government school illiterate 'graduates' and drop outs, vicious criminals run the streets preying on the innocent, we have achieved the ultimate...we've destroyed the notion of God/Goodness/ in exchange for 'whatever floats your boat'. In short we have exchanged LIBERTY FOR LICENSE with the result that eventually we will have neither. Don't believe it" Just you wait and see...and it won't be 'bluebirds and peace ever after' as the old and wonderful WWII song says. We will wish to hell we had never 'left' the reviled [by the great unwashed] fifties decade.

It'll be more than if you didn't buy Morgans and Peace dollars. I think that I saw somewhere there was more silver in a face bag containing these (less worn) coins than a regular mixed bag. 730 ounces on average compared to 715 ounces in a mixed bag. More silver = more money, of course.

Precisely!

"Wake up you idiots! Whatever made you think paper was so valuable?" - Kurt Vonnegut, Galapagos

Gaba, it's bad alright, but we can't fix it by just gripping about it. We have to take the country back, and we have to fix what's wrong. Giving more power to the guys at the top who have already proven themselves dishonest, incompetant and self serving beyond belief is not the way to go.

Graft begins at the top, and the top of the dog pile is the Fed.

Step # 1 - Get rid of the Fed!

There are thousands of economists saying the same thing. (Mogambo comes to mind.) We can't have a government we can trust again as long as the government has to go to crooks to get their money. And they ARE crooks!

Here is a useful breakdown of the silver content of pre-1965 US coins:

Dime: .07234 oz

Quarter: .18084

Half Dollar: .36169

Dollar: .77344

Note that the dollar had more than twice as much silver as the half dollar. This was because of statutory requirements. It helps account for the higher price you pay for dollars.
