At first I thought this would make PM's more valuable, but maybe it would have the opposite affect?

This ridiculous bill merely serves to reinforce my view that the federal government is purposefully trying to destroy commerce in the United States of America. Theis bill is the single most absurd proposition I believe I have ever read regarding the mining industry.

This guy should be flayed alive in a public forum.

Stattman, I would be veeeery careful when making these types of comments. Remember, sedition is still punishable by death, and I'm quite sure that Uncle Stosh is doing key-word monitoring of the net.

I'm just saying........

Don't think this is something new. I've been prospecting and filling miming claims for 20 years and the push to drive mining out has accelerated enormously ever since Clinton put Babbit in as Sec. of Interior in the early 90's. The environmental zealots have not lost much groung under Bush and this cap & trade bullshit of Barry's is the same horse under a different saddle.

This bill isn't meant to pass , just add a few more road blocks in the spirit of bipartisan harmony. U.S. Forest Service now warns recreational miners (prospectors) that they are subject to substantive fines if they disturb more than 9 sq. ft. at a time.

Whether a little or a lot of this passes , it will definitely increase the cost of extraction and eventually the cost of pms. Perhaps the powers that be do understand--at the $2.00 a grain level , I can move a lot of dirt!

In good humor, maybe these politicians think all those paper contracts selling at the COMEX is backed by real metals, so they think it's no big deal to shut down mines.

I'm ok with these democrat morons shutting down the mines. It will make my stash of silver incredibly more valuable than it is now. I'd love to see the hundreds of millions of ounces needed for industry, health, jewelry, and investment force the natural order of supply and demand.

Actually, if this did happen, we will simply have to import our metals like we do everything else. That way, we can feel good about how we saved the planet by making other people do it.

Pardon me, I have to go bug the air force about my, i mean, their jets.

I wouldn't worry too much. This sort of dribble comes and goes. It does, however, give me an excuse to call that dumb fork from VA that's a co-sponsor.

...and I thought getting out of bed today was gonna be a waste of time. :)

Then Obama will call for a bill recalling all precious metals saying they are contaminated by industrial mining agents. Then colloidal silver will be outlawed just like organic produce.

After all, if you send all gold and silver into space, the dollar can't depreciate against anything. It will have whatever value you believe it to, in the vaccum of space where gravity doesn't exist (between his ears or in D.C.), hope means everything.

When he cuts farm subsidies during a credit crunch and deflation, he'll lead us in praying for manna from heaven. All is well.

Those mining guys are big business and lobbyist have no place in his administraion ... because he's already filled those position.

Wait a minute here, i didn't see obamas name on the list of people supporting the bill. LOL you guys need to settle down some. Just because a dozen or so people support it, mostly all from california, doesn't mean it will pass. Its really seems that all replublicans are the same. They talk shit and blow everything out of proportion, all the while throwing everyone who doesn't vote for their man under the bus. I'm tired of it, leave the politics out of it. Quit with the partisan bullshit, and quit blaming everything on obama. I mean holy fuck, he's been in office all of 6 weeks. Yet he has managed to ruin everything on the face of the earth already? Please.

what the fuck is going on with these IDIOTS? if congress were to NOT ENACT any more laws this year this country just might heal itself...they remind me of doctors in the past .....if you were sick they would bleed you ....then give you tonics to throw up.... give you leeches to make you better... and if you died from this "treatment" it was because they did not DO ENOUGH FOR,they would say.

You see guys, its not about protectionism there is none in the country. Our government makes it difficult if not impossible to compete in the market.

How can Americans compete, foreigners dont have environmental laws, and they dont have any restrictive rules.

This is the kind of thing that gets some into such a rage that they start wishing the country would just CRASH and get it over with. Then all the garbage LIKE THIS would creep back into the shadows from where it came.
Anyway, this sounds like legislation proposed by some asshole from New York or some large state back east where they don't mine and ever since the Civil War, they don't mind their own business either. While I don't care for "Handsome" Harry Reid, he is from Nevada, he is a Democrat and he is PRO MINING, as are many other senators from the west. Like trying to "control guns" this rears it's ugly head every few years only to be shoved back up the assholes that this outrage could come from. These big FATCATS from these eastern states CAUSED THE CIVIL WAR and they're still trying to foster their anti free market rabidity and their need TO CONTROL the rest of us, that we can't even see what threats to freedom and liberty this crowd really is. And that's O.K. because I have a feeling that IF TSHTF and John Q. Public puts THAT together, this next time, THE JOB WILL BE DONE RIGHT like it should have been done 150 years ago....

Chux,
The Powers That Be, and I don't mean the President, are working furiously to see that their "free trade" experiment does not get shut down. They want to be certain that America remains dependent upon foriegn sources for raw materials, fuel and to some extent food. Many of the free trade agreements are detrimental to commerce in the states, and that is by design. The whole idea of globalism is to equalize wages and production throughout the world. In other words, a laborer in Sri Lanka makes the same hourly wage as a worker in America. This plan is not a secret, nor is it a conspiracy. These plans have been public for years, but have only been openly discussed recently.

The globalists created this mess, right alongside the banksters, and they are refusing to let go. Their dream is one world currency and one world government.

chux03

Agreed, but Free Trade is also doomed. They can only "control" things while times are relatively good. From chaos and anarchy (which is the opposite of control) there arises the Phoenix and in our case, if we desire freedom and liberty and free markets, what we have now MUST be....replaced. That and it's the end of the line for the paper American dollar as well, having made it nearly to the 40 year mark that NO UNBACKED PAPER CURRENCY has EVER made it past. Not one...not ever. Somebody needs to contact Ben Bernenke and "Turbo Tax" Tim and mention this fact to them.

At first I thought this would make PM's more valuable, but maybe it would have the opposite affect?

I would have to think that if they banned all mining, the stuff that is already in circulation would become more valuable because there would be no additional new supply.

What about industries that use copper, silver, moly, etc. to make products? I guess they will have to bribe the idiot that proposed this bill.

This guy should be tarred and feathered. I'd say more but big brother is probably logging every post we make. ;)

You see guys, its not about protectionism there is none in the country. Our government makes it difficult if not impossible to compete in the market.

How can Americans compete, foreigners dont have environmental laws, and they dont have any restrictive rules.

Wait a minute here. You want to deregulate everything so we can complete? Ok sure thats a great idea, lets do like china. They don't have clean drinking water, they have an extremely high death rate, they let children work in sweat shops, they are communist! Ok lets do just that. Lets be just like china, so we can complete. That sounds smart. Environmental regulations aren't just about making us uncompetitive, they are about protecting our planet for our kids and their kids. If you believe in god and that he will fix all of this then, you are hopeless, your mind isn't right and you need help. Now don't get me wrong i don't believe in regulation for the sake of regulation, but if it helps save the planet for future generations then that is more important. I can hear the arguement now. But if our kids don't have money then what good is it. Well heres my arguement, if they don't have clean water and air to breath what good is having all the money in the world? Do we really want to get to a point where we have to find another planet to populate? Theres billions of them out there so i'm sure we could eventually find one that would be suitable, but that may or may not be within our own galaxy and certainly not within our solar system. Imagine having to move mankind to a different solor system, because we want to deregulate policies that help protect our planet, that sounds like a good idea. I'm not saying all regulation is good, but some of it is and is needed. Once again if you think god will fix it all then you've got other issues that rationality cannot solve. I for one do not want to be like china and other countries with little to no regulation on polluting the planet. Sure it would make us more competitive, but we are smart enough to figure out other ways to get it done. We put a man on the moon, i think we can figure out how to make toys without lead based paint.

Oh man that's rich! To survive in space and go to the moon (as was alleged) you'd need a 4 foot thick wall of lead around the shuttle or you'd die of radiation.

And Oswald killed Kennedy.

Seems only fair to blame obama, after all wasn't it "W"(according to the left) that caused Katrina? And, after inventing the internet, Manbearpig went on to invent global warming. :)
