Does this just mean the mints has a very large pile or are the 2008 Eagles possibly very rare?

Apparently everyone read the Ted/Izzy article where Izzy told us to buy Silver Eagles.
Well, everyone did and that is why the mint ran out. They could not keep up with demand. What does that tell you?
I got the last 4 monster boxes from my semi-local dealer a week or so ago. Only one of his suppliers had any (the aforementioned 4 boxes) and he bought them and then I did. Now they are all gone.
My fault, I bought ALL the Silver Eagles.
I also bought all the loose rolls he had in his store too.
I'd have hated to leave any there!

I have been kind of surprised at the ease of buying silver around here. The top end guy always has supply. He actually said not to buy2008 as a rarity, but only as bullion. His prices don't change on the Eagles, but that is probably because he has a good enough business not need to gouge. THough it would seem to me that with no sellers a little gouging is in order, and not completely unfair. Why ISNT that happening more?

The other guy I don't buy from as much said the US Mint doesn't want to buy silver to make the coins. Doubt it. But, you never know. The other guy says they will make plenty of them later in the year.

I would say that for those 2008s to be rare, you have to be lucky that things get bad enough something wierd happens to the mint, I mean Unlucky. You know, like how the FDA stops us from getting supplements for our own good. Here, have a french fry bred with genes from a rooster anus. But, lets stop this vitamen madness right now. I guess I am supposed to be worshipping under the helicopter waiting for that sweet greenback to shower me.

As a poor machinist I find it easier to buy 10 oz bars .$50 over spot than silver eagles that are $4-$5 over spot. Silver is silver, correct? In the end it's all bullion.

I never pay more than 2.00 over spot for mine.

Read the Ted Butler article with Izzy Friedman. Izzy will tell you why Eagles are a great bargain. I agree with them. I do buy 10 oz bars at minimal mark-up though, when I can find them. No reason not to.:D
The last Eagles I bought, the gouge was $1.90. So I could have sold my Eagles on ebay for about $1.50 each more than I paid for them. INSTANTLY.
What premium?
JesterJay
PS The premium on a $200+/ounce silver EAGLE will probably be more than the asking price is NOW. Therefore, FREE Silver Eagles for EVERYONE!

For the price of silver eagles at my nearest, local dealer it would be cheaper for me to buy through apmex.com, even with the shipping charge.

I asked the dealer if I need to call before I came in to be sure he had any bullion he laughed and said "no we have plenty".

My local dealer (other side of town in the great big MALL) has little bullion. An hour away in a smaller less economically advantaged town the dealer there has LOTS of it and can get me anything I want.
Almost.
All dealers are different. Some have little interest in the bullion market. For now anyway. When Au and Ag go KaBoom! we will see who is interested then.
I think it is starting!

Thats the trouble with eagles, or should i say "collectors". Im in it for the Ag, but although not a "true" silver dollar, many collector people buy certain dates called "key" dates,1996 i believe is one of them, my advice is just to find out what the key dates are and avoid them, also gem and proof types command higher premiums (proofs are really high) i stick with common or burnished types they are the same grade of Ag and weight, thats all that matters to me, im not a numistatic collector.
