:?:What do I do with 48 Morgans that are now in 2 seperate forms , shaped from a house fire. Insurance would not cover them, now I have 2 recovered shapes of 90% Silver,10% Copper that I will lose my butt on as Collectors coins? The local coin shop is no help. I have searched the web,
Anyone with ideals how to get melt vaule from the Silver/Copper ? Will it have to be ASSAYED? Please leave suggestions. Thanks and remember to keep valuables safe from fire, not all safes are as fire proof as they proclaim!

Sorry for your misfortune...

That being said, I think I'd finish the job. Melt em down and make a bar out of it. Then take it in for an asssay (I'm not far from the NW Territorial Mint located in Auburn WA and I know they'll buy any kind of metal you bring in. The main catch is that on a large buy they require an assay of the metal being sold to them. It can be spendy, I think they quoted my friend as about $75 to assay a gold necklace he took in there. But you're going to need that bunch of molten metal assayed. After that assigning value should be no problem.
The other suggestion would be to put them on Ebay, lock, stock and barrel. Just write your description and weigh it accurately and post LOTS of pics. Long as you aren't too far off on your price, I'd bet they'd sell just like that. That would be the first thing I'd do if I was looking to sell. If you can't sell it on Ebay have it assayed and then put it back on Ebay. I'm betting it'll find a new home, no problem. Good luck!!

You have a picture of this "blob of silver"??

Here's a link to a place I know does assays:

http://www.nwtmint.com/

If you don't want to pay for that, I'd still say to do the Ebay thingy. Lots of pics, even one with the blob on the scale and a good description mentioning how many coins are in this blob and I'm betting there's nothing else like it on Ebay and that you'd sell...
