Here is more indication of the U$D on it's way out. http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_08/willie021909.html
Looks like they are tired of the US money games and feel the time will be right in Jan 2010 to dump the dollar...or sooner.
Interpretations please, besides "we're freaking doomed" as Mogambo says.
Here's mine, we're hosed!

Honestly, I don't believe that this was a suprise to the US govt. I believe that we are in a wind-down scenario... maybe not completely scripted, but I'm sure the US govt has spoken to other govt leaders and told them exactly what they intend to do and why. From there , TPTB, will save themselves by investing in other countries and stocks (google "Cheney bets on economic collapse"). They knew it was coming.
Right now the lifeboats have been deployed for the upper crust, and steerage has been locked in the basement to take on the flood water. Good thing is that many are wiser than that and plan to take wise action to prevent a complete drowning.
Another currency will takes its place, however the USD will be de-valued and not carry the weight that it did. My expectation is that prices will rise, slowly at first, then much higher and quickly.
Its just a matter of prudence to prepare for these events.
Physical assets of any kind are good investments. Think about what will be absolutely necessary to have in a shortage/rationing environment. The upside is that we are now going to be able to use that God-given creativity that we all have and frequently dont need to use because everthing is a click away.
So, maybe I didn't answer your question, but I see a slow but steady erosion of buying power for the USD, and then replacement with a regional currency. However this regional currency will be valued against a much larger currency basket and will result in the US not having the economic sway it always has.
I don't watch charts (except kitco) and have no economic background or training. I'm just laying out what I think. Like to hear others that are more wise than I to weigh in on this too.

Faith,
See the thread on the emergency in Texas just above this one. It is beginning rto unravel in Mexico, and will most likely spread into the U.S. We are months away, not years away from collapse. They are talking nationalization of banks, we have prepared prison camps and are activiely destroying the value of our currency through massive printing.

Indeed. I know that there are are few out there that do agree on the acceleration of events/collapse. Maybe its like a rock rolling down hill picking up speed as it goes.
But people will still be employed, still eat out, have children, get married, have birthday parties, etc. Dog poop will still need to be cleaned up in the yard, baby's butt needs wiping, etc. Mundane stuff will continue to happen. I don't envision a mushroom cloud or chemical attack in Chicago or anything like that... then again why is Illinois preparing for one?
Nah, just exercises in preparedness, that's all.
But Larry Silverstein (the Larry Silverstein of the World Trade Towers) did buy the Sears tower in Chicago. But that's just speculation.
Of course he did make ALOT of money on 9/11.
I'm just paranoid I guess. I really don't believe in conspiracy theories. Basically the government is looking out for our best interests, I'm sure.
