Good Morning,

I just want to say thanks to everyone for the help they have given me so far. This forum has a great following.

My question is. I am looking to purchase some 2007 Canadian Maples. They look different from 09 maples. They have a frosted backing on both sides and they have a mark on them that looks like a pig. What are these worth to a silver guy?

Unless they look like the ones below, do not buy them IMHO. Perhaps the Canadian Mint did a limited run on a special edition coin, I don't follow that. I just buy the standard Maples and nothing else other than the 2009 Vancouver Olympic version. Also, the 2009 Maples have more of a satin finish as compared to the machined/brushed look of all Maples past.

It is saying there were only 8000 minted in 2007. It it something worth investing in for the silver and for the value of the coin?

I have some 2009 standard Maples and they are just plain coins. They dont have a satin finish.

Unless you are a numismatist, the special minting runs always cost more, and while they are fine silver, are IMO a waste of money for plain old stacking. You can get '09 Maples [Vancouver Olympics] for a couple bucks premium over spot, and they are just as pretty.

I am just thinking for the purity of the silver and the mintage at only being 8000 if I can buy below what Alburn coin sells a regular 09 silver maple does it make sense. Regular Silver Maple 18.67 at Alburn Coin.

If you can get it at a price competitive with other Maples, it's a good investment. If you just like the look of it, buy one and to hell with the slight premium. If you're buying for investment, I would recommend forgetting numismatic value and just go for the cheapest Maple.

Ditto. But if you are indeed collecting for numismatic value the premiums on these special-run coins generally triple over their life-time.

They are a nice coin. Im just getting into the coin part of bullion. I do prefer the bars myself. Im into the coins for there beauty and the weight of silver.

Does the Isle of man do a bar of bullion? I see a lot of Silver Cats but no bars??

Is there a type of silver that would be best for investment? Bars/Maples/Eagles?

Also need to consider that if silver gets to $50/ozt then what would you think would sell at that price? I don't think ALL silver will get that price, but some of the nicer ones (like the Austrailian kooks), will be first to hit that.

If you get bars, it might be wise to stick with bars that have serial numbers on them. Engelhard, Sunshine, Johnson Matthey and a few other might have serial numbers. Good trusted names with serial numbers are in demand.

Stay away from 5 oz bars - the premiums are too high in my opinion.

The question, in my mind is; Does the numismatic value of the coin increase in direct proportion to the underlying value of the base metal??? Or, for that matter, does the premium remain a constant or does it also increase?

For the numismatic question, I really have no idea as that's a whole 'nother ball park.

As to the premium, I think you all have seen that it is a declining % to the base value of metal. I try to buy as little a "premium" as possible. Premiums are a vastly more subjective thing based on the form of metal. Therefore I want to pay as little as possible and sell it as much as possible. You would be surprised at the spread from maples, eagles, phils, libs, rounds, 90% etc... it's just NOT rational. You should see the price Maples command over in Germany...

Sold some Libs today for $18.76 per oz and the guy was nuts over happy cause he didn't have them. Cool, whatever... oh, and before you all jump my a$$, it was only a few coins and I told him if he wanted more than 10 I would give a much more solid price. But nope, just wanted 8 - keep a few and then hand them out to family......

Silver is silver is silver, same as salt. The label means not to me. If it does to you, than we can do business lol. That's my 1 oz of opinion :O)
